Laser Vein Therapy Pre / Post Treatment Care
Pre-Treatment Instructions:
-
The area to be treated with the laser should not have been exposed to the sun or tanning booth at least 4-6 weeks before treatment. If so, treatment of tanned skin can cause blistering and possibly hypo pigmentation (white spots) that can last for months.
-
If you use tanning cream, do not apply to treatment area for at least 10 days before treatment.
-
Clients taking high doses of iron (more than a multi-vitamin may be more susceptible to hyperpigmention (increased pigment/brown spots) if treated with the laser. This pigmentation change usually resolves but can last for months.
-
Clients with poor circulation (i.e. diabetes), taking blood thinners (coumadin, warfarin, daily aspirin etc.) may have poor or delayed healing if treated with the laser for leg veins.
Post-Treatment Instructions:
-
Immediately after laser treatment, the heat of the laser pulses may be uncomfortable. Ice packs can be applied intermittently for the first day to relieve discomfort.
-
Tylenol is recommended for discomfort if necessary.
-
If any areas treated have resulted in blistering, antibiotic ointment can be applied to keep the area from being infected. Keep this clean and covered until healed.
-
The treatment area will be bruised or discolored after treatment. This can last a few days or a few weeks. STAY OUT OF THE SUN OR TANNING BOOTH until the treatment area is healed. If additional treatments are needed, keep from tanning at least 6 weeks before scheduled treatment.
-
For 48 hours after treatment of leg veins, keep from exercising your legs so healing will not be impaired. Exercise may contribute to delayed healing and/or hyper pigmentation.
-
If a large area on both legs has been treated, elevation of the legs with cold application after treatment can reduce discomfort.
-
If you received a test dose only, waiting at least 6-8 weeks can be necessary to see if the treatment was effective and for us to evaluate for any side effects that may have occurred.
-
When a full treatment is performed, WAITING AT LEAST TWO MONTHS before the next treatment is best as treatment is best as healing continues throughout this entire period.
Electrology
Information
-
Electrology
has been around since 1875. Obviously the technology has
improved, but the basic concept is unchanged. Electrology is
a hair-by-hair process, which involves a small needle that
is inserted into the hair follicle. A combination of heat
and electricity causes a chemical reaction at the follicle,
therefore producing a caustic chemical to inactivate the
hair.
-
This
process is slow and tedious but currently is the only
permanent method of hair removal that can inactivate red,
gray or light blond hairs. Most clients consider electrology
more uncomfortable than laser. We do a local anesthetic
that numbs the skin in a few minutes immediately before
the electrology treatment.
-
After
each hair is treated, the hair is removed. The skin may have
some redness and follicular edema (hair follicle swelling)
that may last 2-4 hours.

-
Do not use any abrasive skin cleaners over the treatment area for about 48 hours after your treatment (Can be irritating to the hair follicle).
-
Avoid sun exposure for 48 hours after an electrology treatment.
-
Use only fresh makeup, less than 90 days old to minimize the risk of infection.
-
If any reaction occurs which appears related to your electrology treatment, please contact us to discuss further care options.
- Repeat treatments at 1 to 3 week intervals for about 6 months to 2 years are required for complete clearance of hair.
Spider
Vein Treatment with the Cynosure Laser
Requirements:
-
Small
veins. The vein must be no bigger than the width of a paper
clip. If the vein is larger than this, you will require
treatment by a more invasive technique such as sclerothearpy.
-
Fair
skin. Due to the high energy levels required to coagulate
the blood in the vessel, if you have dark skin you will have
blistered, scarred skin. (In effect, no better than a
vein!) Clients must be a level 1-3 on the Fitzpatrick Skin
Scale (Levels 1-6).
-
The
cost for the procedure is based on the amount of time required to clear an area.
15" = $150
30" = $200
45" = $250
60" = $300
